Interested in Becoming a Dog Groomer?

We are now offering a course to become a Certified Dog Groomer, as well as individual classes on bathing, brushing and scissoring here at Precious Paws and Claws! Become a certified dog groomer in a professional and friendly environment. Learn through hands-on instruction how to bathe and fluff, use and maintain equipment, identify breeds, and perform high quality, breed-specific haircuts as well as more creative cuts. In our course you will develop the skills to turn what you learn into a business of your own! Demonstrating safety and kindness towards the animals and producing the best possible quality work is our top priority. We want to share our over 12 years of knowledge and experience with our students, showing them what a rewarding career pet grooming can be. It is our goal to develop properly trained, talented and hard-working groomers so they can go out into the world and do what they love, and owners can trust them to take care of their pets. If you don’t want to be a professional dog groomer, our individual classes will surely teach you to keep your dog looking, and feeling great between grooming visits.

Lesson Plan

Step 1
Safety, identify equipment, proper use/maintenance of equipment, accident prevention, breed identification (group, breed standards), anatomy, proper handling, body language, diseases, parasites, ear/skin infections, nail clipping, ear cleaning, sanitary clips, pad shaving, brushing/combing.

Step 2
Bathing, flea baths, express anal glands, proper restraint, drying, brushing, avoiding brush burn, matt removal, scissoring faces, scissoring feet, developing a routine.

Step 3
Use of comb attachments, clipping patterns (breed specific), clean feet/faces (poodles), handling puppies, old dogs, and aggressive dogs, begin hand scissoring, tick removal.

Step 4
Creative styles, advanced scissoring, hair coloring, time management, pricing, business building, gaining repeat clients.

* After each step is completed, there will be a multiple choice test on the topics covered. At the end of 18 weeks, there will be a multiple choice and 3 haircut final exam. *No certification is guaranteed, it must be earned by attending class, completing each section and passing all exams.*
